How to open and eat an Oyster

If you are opening an oyster these are the tools needed an oyster Knife and a kitchen towel.

Use the folded kitchen towel, hold oyster level as to not loose any liquid. Hold the knife curved side down, tracing the upper shell, cutting the adductor muscle and removing the top shell.

Then go curved side up along the bottom, again severing the adductor. Oyster knives are gently curved in order to follow the shape of the shell. It is an easy process.

Leave the oyster sitting in the bottom shell and serve with lemon juice or some tabasco sauce is a good alternative.

Best way to eat an oyster?

There is no right way to eat an oyster exactly so relax you won’t make a fool of yourself. Use your small fork and move the oyster slightly in its liquid filled half shell this will make sure the oyster is detached.

Then pick up the shell and slurp it into your mouth from the wide end of the shell.

The popular myth is to swallow the oyster whole but it is actually best to chew the oyster once or twice before swallowing. This allows you to taste the oyster and get its true flavour.
